Just Because Social Security Offices Are Closed Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Apply For Disability

On March 17, 2020 the Social Security Administration closed all of its local offices in order to protect its employees and the people it serves from the coronavirus. As the agency points out in its closure notification, the population it serves is made up of older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions, so limiting in-person interaction is prudent during the pandemic.

However, this does not mean that the federal agency as a whole has shut down. If you believe you are eligible for Social Security Disability you should not wait to apply until offices reopen.

Still Open For Business

At the Seelig Law Group, we are continuing to help injured and ill people in the New York City area apply for Social Security Disability. Although local Social Security offices are closed, the agency is still processing applications. The agency is encouraging applicants to use its website, or give them a call.

The attorneys at our firm are comfortable with this arrangement because we typically deal with the SSA online or over the phone. Applicants who are not familiar with the Social Security Administration’s (SSA’s) online system, and would like assistance navigating it, should feel free to contact our office. Our experienced team of attorneys and exceptional support staff are here to help.

Please note, however, that due to the virus, our office is also doing much of its work remotely. When possible, we are meeting with clients over the phone, or via secure video conferencing. If this does not work for you we may be able to make other arrangements, but we feel we are able to provide the same level of service our clients have come to expect without conducting in-person meetings.

Business As Usual at the Social Security Administration

It seems that the SSA is functioning just as smoothly as it has in the past now that its employees have had time to adjust to working online and over the phone. The applications for SSD that our firm has submitted are being processed as normal, and appeals are moving forward as well.

The Seelig Law Group helps applicants at both of these stages in the SSDI benefits process.

If retained to file the initial application, we put together the most comprehensive case possible to give you the best chance of being initially approved for benefits. We will stay in touch with you throughout the process so you always know what is going on, and we are always available by phone to address any questions or concerns. Our team also requests and reviews all medical records, corresponds with your health care providers, and can even help you find a specialist if necessary. Our staff fills out all of the necessary paperwork and includes the necessary documents with the online application.

If your application is initially denied and it is appropriate to appeal, we will file all appeals requests and represent you at all interviews and hearings whether they happen remotely or in person. Our attorneys will question witnesses and prepare all legal documents in support of your case. The firm will even appeal your case to a Federal court if necessary.

If you need assistance filing for Social Security Disability, or appealing the denial of a previous application, the Seelig Law Group is here to help. Please contact us today.
