When you took your first steps, your parents cheered you on. Before going on your first date, you stocked up on breath mints. Your first day on the job, you worked hard to learn everyone’s name. You are an expert at firsts. But you may not know how to prepare for your first meeting with a disability benefits attorney.
There should be nothing intimidating about meeting with an attorney from the Seelig Law Group. After all, you are the boss. You are the one hiring us to work for you, but we understand why you may not be 100% comfortable before your first meeting with us:
These concerns are all valid. In fact, it would be strange if you weren’t worried about your case. It is our job to put your mind at ease. The best way for us to do that is to get right to work and prove to you that you can trust the Seelig Law Group to handle your case.
You can help make our first meeting more productive by doing a bit of prep work. It is helpful, but not necessary, for you to bring the following information to your first meeting with our team:
If you have a copy of your medical records, bring them with you. If not, please start to gather a list of the names and addresses of every doctor you have seen since you became ill or were injured. We can then use that list to help you request a copy of your records.
It is also a good idea to bring a list of your current medications, ongoing treatments (like physical therapy), and scheduled doctors’ appointments and surgeries.
Please bring information that will allow us to document your last decade of employment. The names and addresses of your employers, the approximate dates you worked there, a description of your work, your wage and salary history, and the names of your supervisors is all helpful.
If you applied for workers’ compensation, please bring those documents along as well.
If you have previously applied for Social Security Disability and been denied, or started to DIY the paperwork but stopped short of submitting it, bring all of those documents with you. We can often build on what has already been done instead of starting from scratch.
If you have questions about disability benefits, we probably know the answer. If we don’t know the answer, we will know how to find the answer. There is no question too simple, or too difficult, so come prepared to ask us as many questions as you like.
The Seelig Law team wants to help you get the benefits and compensation you deserve. While this may be your first time working with an attorney, or applying for disability benefits, we have years of experience that we are ready to put to use on your behalf. Please contact our office today if we can be of service.
